Pohlavní rozdíly
Samice jsou větší a zpravidla robustnější, zatímco samci mají řitní ploutev přeměněnou v gonopodium.
Potrava
Především řasy a detrit, doplňkově drobní vodní bezobratlí včetně žábronožek a larev hmyzu.
Etymologie
Druh pojmenován na počest nizozemského entomologa Jacoba R. H. Neervoorta van de Polla (1862–1924).
